Vegan Mofo: Green Kombucha Smoothie

400x84_g3

Effervescent and energizing, kombucha is one of my favorite afternoon treats and post-workout beverages. As I was enjoying a cold bottle of ‘buch earlier this week, it dawned on me that I’ve never made a kombucha smoothie! Finishing up the first week of Vegan Mofo, today’s Green Kombucha Smoothie recipe is the result of an experiment that ended up turning out pretty awesome!

Let’s talk about kombucha for a minute. It’s quite easy to make your own (stay tuned for a how-to post soon!) and lately kombucha has become so popular that you can find it in almost every health food store as well as many regular grocery stores and coffee shops. Kombucha is often hailed as a miracle drink, with companies claiming that it detoxifies, cleanses and regulates the digestive system, improves hair, skin and nails and boosts immunity. Personally I find it to be very energizing and thirst-quenching, plus I love the taste!

GT’s is one of the most widely sold brands, but here are a few other great companies to look for-

In this smoothie recipe, I used GT’s Kombucha Original Flavor. I added a few dates for sweetness, but they may not be necessary if you use a flavored kombucha.  I’m looking forward to trying this smoothie again with Strawberry or Gingerberry Flavor.

  1. Reminds me a bit of my post work out vegan efferverscent kefir drinks, except they are based on store bought fruit juice instead of green juice. I really should try making green juice kefir as soon as I get a blender or juicer. Thanks for the suggestion.
