Crispy Apple Chips+ Apple Nachos

Hi Friends! Today I am super excited to share a very special apple treat with you. This recipe for Apple Nachos falls under my very favorite snack category of “sweet and salty.”  Even though this recipe is quite simple to put together, it’s a big crowd pleaser and I can’t wait to make it for Thanksgiving this year. Apple pie is great, but what’s more fun than nachos?

The base of this dish is a layer of Crispy Apple Chips which I definitely recommend making to enjoy on their own and dip in everything.  The recipe calls for a nut butter of your choice- in the photos I used peanut butter, but almond, cashew or tahini would be a great choice as well. For raw nachos, you can use dehydrated apple slices and raw almond butter.

makes 4 servings

What you’ll need:

  • 4 apples
  • 1 tbs cinnamon
  • 1 tsp sea salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 225°
  2. Use a mandolin slicer or a sharp knife to cut the apple into the thinest possible slices (1/8″ thick or less).
  3. Place apple slices on a baking sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon and salt. Bake in the oven for 1 hour.
  4. Remove slices from oven and set to cool. They will feel a little soft coming out of the oven but they will firm up as they cool.

Apple Nachos

makes 4 servings

What you’ll need:

  • 1 batch of Crispy Apple Chips
  • 2 tbs nut butter of your choice
  • 2 tbs agave
  • 2 tbs cocoa powder
  • 4 tbs cacao nibs (you can also you chocolate chips)

Directions:

  • Spread apple chips out on a plate or tray. Mix cocoa powder and agave together in a cup and drizzle over chips with a spoon or pastry bag. This mixture will harden over time so make sure to drizzle it right away.
  • Some nut butters will be able to be drizzled with a spoon straight from the jar, while others may be a little too solid. If yours is too solid, warm it up in a small pot on the stove first.
  • Sprinkle cacao nibs over everything. Enjoy as is or heat the nachos up in the oven for a a few minutes to enjoy them warm!
