Let’s All Cozy Up with Some Mocha-Maca Hot Chocolate!
It’s officially very, very cold here in New York, so this week I’ve been warming up with my favorite cozy drink- Mocha-Maca Hot Chocolate. Unlike many of the seasonal drinks you’ll come across this time of the year, this treat is full of totally wholesome ingredients so it won’t leave you in a sugar coma. Like all of my favorite recipes, it’s super simple to make.
You’ll notice that the recipe calls for maca powder, which is a Peruvian superfood known to boost energy and balance hormones. When I make this drink in the morning with maca I feel energized and better equipped to go out in the cold. If you don’t have maca powder on hand you can feel free to omit it from the recipe, the hot chocolate will still taste just as good!
Mocha-Maca Hot Chocolate
makes 2 servings
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup non-dairy milk (I use unsweetened almond)
- 1 cup freshly brewed coffee (decaf, regular or herbal coffee)
- 2 tbs cocoa powder
- 1 tbs maca powder
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 tbs agave (start with 1 tbs and add more to taste)
- optional toppings- Coconut Sweet Cream and cacao nibs
Directions:
- Heat milk and coffee in a small pot on the stove at medium heat. When pot begins to simmer, stir in remaining ingredients until dissolved.
- Serve right away and enjoy!
You had me at Maca! I love it in smoothies but hadn’t thought about adding it to a hot drink! Yum!
It’s the first time I added it to a warm drink as well, it’s super yummy 🙂
