Hello Chocolate Hummus!
I really love hummus, in fact I don’t think I’ve met a hummus I didn’t like. Not too long ago we made Balsamic Roasted Sweet Potato Hummus and today I am very excited to share my recipe for Chocolate Hummus. Thick, creamy and chocolately, this recipe is awesome because it’s like enjoying protein-packed frosting! It’s perfect for dipping apple slices or dates, spreading on toast, crackers and other baked goods. Naturally I decided to use it as icing and make cookie sandwiches…
Chocolate Hummus
makes 8-10 servings
What you’ll need:
- 1.5 cups cooked chickpeas (or 1 can)
- 1/4 cup nut butter of your choice (almond, peanut, cashew, etc.)
- 4 dates, pitted
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tbs agave
- 2 tbs almond milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in blender until smooth. Serve with cookies, apple slices, banana or eat with a spoon!
What a wild idea! Did you taste the chickpeas?
I think you can barely notice the chickpeas (aside from the texture), you mostly taste the chocolate!
Perfect! 🙂
Chocolate hummus? What a great idea. Thought I was doing fine with my beet hummus, but this takes the cake 🙂
Yum, beet hummus!! That sounds delicious!!
Made it this morning—-love it!
Awesome! So happy to hear it 🙂
Brilliant!
I’m dying to make this, looks delicious. Just wondering: is that 1/4 cup cocoa powder? It seems the measurement was accidentally omitted.
THank you for pointing that out! Yes, it’s supposed to be 1/4 cup, I’ll be sure to update it. I hope you try the recipe and love it as much as I do!
I took a gamble and went with 1/4 cup (I live dangerously. lol)… oh my, this is the best ever!!! I’m about to make a second batch so I can bring it to work and share. 🙂
Awesome! Enjoy!! 🙂
Oh I’m excited to try this! I usually make brownies using chickpeas (oh so yummy!) but now I have to try the hummus. Do you have any expirence how long it can be kept in the fridge? Because I think this would be a nice little Christmas giveaway…
Christmas giveaway- what a great idea!! I store mine in an airtight mason jar and it probably has about a 1 week shelf life. It’s best fresh! 🙂
hello Everyone…don’t be afraid of legumes 🙂 Not only chickpeas, but lentil, beans (all kinds and sorts) taste GREAT with dates, cocoa, carob, coconut, prums, nuts, cinnamon…really 🙂 it is the same fun as with pumpkin, zuccini, spinach, which have quite neutral flavour. kind regards!
yummy!! i have to try this recipe!! thanks for sharing, 🙂 I’m going to put it on our FB page EastWestGreenGirls.
Awesome! Enjoy the recipe! 🙂
I am a homemade hummus lover and this is by far one of the most intriguing and amazing hummus recipes I have found thus far. I just finished making this for a gathering tomorrow morning and I don’t know if this batch will last until then! Thank you for the recipe!
